AI SEO Consultant for Small Business
An AI SEO consultant for a small business gets you found in Google and named in AI answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, as one piece of work. I am Memona, a solo consultant in Dubai working remotely worldwide. I fix your listings, site access and service pages first, then content.

What does an AI SEO consultant do for a small business?
Google rankings and AI answers draw on the same things: a site that can be crawled, facts that match everywhere, pages that answer questions, and a reputation others confirm. So I treat them as one job, not two retainers. In practice that is six tasks.
If you already use the industry terms, the same work is described on my answer engine optimization (AEO) consultant and generative engine optimization (GEO) consultant pages.
- Business Profile and listings: I make your name, category, hours, services and location accurate, and the same everywhere Google and AI tools look.
- Crawler access: I check that Googlebot and AI search bots such as OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot can reach your pages, and that your robots.txt or firewall is not blocking them by accident.
- Service pages: I rework the pages that bring you work so each one answers your buyers’ questions in plain words, with structured data that describes your business.
- Reviews and mentions: I help you build a simple habit of asking happy customers for reviews, and list the directories and sites your market trusts.
- Content: once the basics are solid, I plan a small number of useful pages around the questions your buyers actually ask.
- Checking both: I track your Google rankings and clicks, test the questions buyers ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and AI Overviews, and show you what changed.
What should a small business fix first?
Most small business owners have a few hours a week for this, not a marketing team. On a small budget of time, this is the order I work in, because each step makes the next one count.
Google Business Profile and listings
For a local or service business this is often the quickest win. Google Maps reads it directly, and AI tools pick up the same facts when they match across your listings. Fixing it takes hours, not months.
Crawler access
If Google or AI search bots cannot reach your site, nothing else you do counts. Checking takes minutes, and when something is wrong the fix is usually small.
Service pages that answer questions
One clear page per service that opens with a direct answer: what you do, for whom, where, and how to start. That opening is what Google shows in snippets and what AI tools quote.
Reviews
Real reviews reassure buyers and give Google and AI tools a reason to trust you. A steady habit of asking beats a one-off push.
Content
Blog posts and guides come last, once the pages that earn you money are right. Then a few pieces that answer real buyer questions do more than a weekly schedule of filler.
For the first two steps, my Google Business Profile optimization guide and guide to getting more Google reviews walk you through it step by step.
What can you do yourself, and what should you hand over?
A lot of AI SEO is work you can do yourself, and I would rather you did it than paid someone for it. Start with my free AI visibility checklist and the robots.txt and llms.txt generator. Hand over the parts where a mistake is costly or hard to spot.
| Task | Do it yourself | Hand it over |
|---|---|---|
| Google Business Profile | Fill every field, add real photos, keep hours current, reply to reviews | Suspensions, duplicate listings, wrong categories, facts that will not stay fixed |
| Reviews | Ask every happy customer and reply to every review | A simple request process, if asking keeps slipping |
| AI answers | Ask ChatGPT and Perplexity what your buyers ask, and note who gets named | A written baseline across engines, repeated on a set cadence |
| Crawler access | Run the free checklist and generate a starting robots.txt | Firewall and CDN rules that block bots, and anything you are unsure about |
| Service pages | Write down the questions buyers ask you on calls and by email | Page structure, answer-first rewrites and structured data |
| Technical SEO | Notice when pages are slow, broken or missing from Google | Indexing, speed, redirects and schema fixes |
If you do the left column well, you may only need me for a one-off review. That is a fine outcome, and I will tell you so.
How do you vet an “AI SEO” consultant?
“AI SEO” is a new label, and plenty of old tactics are being resold under it. Put these questions to any consultant, agency or freelancer, including me.
The first one matters most: a promise of guaranteed rankings or guaranteed AI placement is the clearest sign to keep looking.
- Ask whether they guarantee a first-page ranking or a mention in ChatGPT. If they do, walk away. Nobody controls Google’s results or what an AI tool writes, and there is no paid slot inside an AI answer.
- Ask what they would fix first for your business. A real answer names your Business Profile, specific pages and listings, not just “content” or “AI optimization”.
- Ask whether they still do the SEO basics. Someone who sells only “AI SEO” and skips crawl access, listings and reviews is skipping the foundation AI answers draw on.
- Ask how they check AI answers. You should be able to rerun the same prompts yourself. Be careful with a proprietary AI visibility score you cannot check.
- Ask whether they publish pages written by AI without editing them. Bulk AI content with no real expertise in it rarely helps a small business and can cost you trust.
- Ask who does the work. With an agency or a marketplace it may be someone you never speak to. With me, the person on the call does the work.
- Ask what they would tell you not to spend on. An honest consultant names the work that is not worth it for you yet.
What does working with me look like?
Every engagement is scoped on a call, not sold as a package. I look at your site, your listings and what AI tools say about you first, then tell you plainly what is worth doing. There are three ways in.
SEO audit
A one-off review of your site, Business Profile and listings, including how you show up in AI answers, with a prioritised plan. Best if you or a developer will do the work.
AI visibility audit
A one-off check of what ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI say about you, why, and a written fix list. Best if Google is fine but AI tools ignore you.
Done-for-you SEO
Ongoing monthly work where I make the changes myself, covering Google and AI search together, with a short plain-English report. Best if you have no time to do it.
Whichever you choose, you deal with me from the first call to the last report. Not sure where you stand? Request a free audit before you commit to anything.
