Small one-time task · a tidy extra step

An llms.txt file for your site, written by hand and set up properly.

llms.txt setup is a small service where I write and publish an llms.txt file for your website and check your robots.txt rules for AI crawlers. llms.txt is a proposed convention, not a ranking factor, and Google Search does not use it. It is a cheap, tidy step for the AI tools that do read it.

Who it’s for

This is for you if you want an llms.txt in place without learning the format, and you would rather it pointed to your best pages accurately than copied your whole sitemap. It suits software companies, documentation sites and content-heavy service businesses. If you have the time and only want the file, my free generator lets you build one yourself.

What’s included
  • A review of your site to pick the pages that best explain what you do, who you serve and how to hire you
  • A hand-written llms.txt in the proposed format: a title, a short summary and sections of described links
  • Every link in the file checked: absolute URLs, live pages, no redirects or blocked paths
  • robots.txt review for AI crawlers: OAI-SearchBot, GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended
  • A plain-English note on each crawler rule, so you allow or block each one on purpose
  • The file published at your domain root, or handed to your developer with clear instructions
  • A short note on when to update the file as your pages change

How does this service help in AI search?

To be straight with you, llms.txt does little on its own. It is a proposed convention: a short Markdown file at your domain root that points AI tools to your most useful pages. Google says Google Search, including its generative AI features, does not use it, and that it will neither help nor harm your visibility there. Google also says it is fine to keep one for other services or systems that use these files. What decides whether AI engines can use your site is robots.txt access for crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot, GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot, and clear, answer-first pages. So I set up the file and check those rules in the same piece of work.

FAQ

Common questions about llms.txt Setup

What is an llms.txt setup service?
It is a small, one-time service where I write an llms.txt file for your website, check every link in it, review your robots.txt rules for AI crawlers and publish the file at your domain root. You end up with a clean, accurate file and crawler rules you have chosen on purpose rather than by accident.
Does llms.txt help me rank on Google or in AI Overviews?
No. Google says Google Search, including its generative AI features, does not use llms.txt, and that the file will neither help nor harm your visibility or rankings there. It is not a ranking factor. Google also says it is fine to keep one for other services or systems that do use these files.
Is llms.txt worth it if Google does not use it?
It is worth a small, cheap step, not a big budget. Some AI tools outside Google Search may read it, and a short list of your best pages costs little to keep current. The bigger levers are crawler access, accurate facts about your business and clear, answer-first pages, which is why I check robots.txt at the same time.
What is the difference between llms.txt and robots.txt?
robots.txt controls access: it tells crawlers such as GPTBot and OAI-SearchBot which parts of your site they may fetch. llms.txt grants and blocks nothing. It is a Markdown file that points AI tools to your most useful pages. Getting robots.txt right matters far more, so this service always checks both files together.
Can I create an llms.txt file myself?
Yes. If you are comfortable editing files on your site, my free robots.txt and llms.txt Generator at seomiss.com/tools/robots-llms-generator builds a starting file for you. This service is for people who would rather hand it over: I choose the pages, write the descriptions, check every link and review the crawler rules.
Will an llms.txt get my business cited by ChatGPT?
I cannot promise that, and you should be wary of anyone who does. ChatGPT decides what to cite on its own. Letting OAI-SearchBot crawl your site, keeping your business facts consistent and publishing clear pages matter more. If ChatGPT is your main concern, my ChatGPT Visibility Audit shows what it says about you and why.
